Renaming of Lake Ontario is Trump's desperate attempt to divert Americans from collapsed trade talks with Canada

Renaming of Lake Ontario is Trump's desperate attempt to divert Americans from collapsed trade talks with Canada
Smokescreen and Ragebait. These are the two words that come to mind when one reads about Trump’s attempt to rename Lake Ontario.

To give our readers an insight – Trump has been making desperate efforts in raising his ratings which are at an all time low at 33-36%.

To shore up support and increase his ratings before the mid-terms, he engaged in trade talks with his Canadian counterpart, Mark Carney. However, surprise-surprise, the talks collapsed with Trump's last-minute demands and limited tariff reliefs.

As if these weren't enough Trump chose to threaten Canada’s economic sovereignty - imposing 50% tariffs on Canadian goods! But Canada doubled down by imposing a dollar-for-dollar tariff.

The (hopefully) final nail in souring our relations with our friendly neighbors is the renaming of Lake Ontario to Lake America.

Make no mistake, I’m a patriot, but I know where to draw the line between patriotism and outright bullying.

The Smokescreen. With the collapse of the trade talks and imposition of tariffs several companies will feel the pinch on their revenue stream and profits which they will bear for the time being. But, with progress in time, they will pass this surcharge on to the consumers, us. Trump knows this.

Hence, Trump is now converting the matter of renaming a lake into a burning issue and attempting to steer public attention away from the realization of impending price escalations.

The Ragebait. Trump has singlehandedly managed to irk both Canadians (all of them) and Americans, leaving the rest of the world confused about the possible ends of renaming a historical lake.

The name of the lake predates formation of both Canada and the US.
Considering that Trump is too old to lie down on the floor and cry at the top of his lungs at the collapse of the trade talks, he has resorted to gather attention by renaming a lake.

He wants to pass this off as an achievement, but we know better.

Now, the crucial introspective question that Americans are asking themselves – who voted Trump to presidency?
